Shop

This is simply a compliment, of places I shop and things that I buy, with a bit of reviews sprinkled in... all-in-all I try to be an ethical consumer.

Fresh Produce (plus more depending on what's for sale)
-Calgary Farmers' Market - Calgary has a year round farmer's market though it is a bit far away for us so we don't go as often as I'd like (but I am grateful!). So with the amount of fresh produce in our diets we do end up buying quite a bit of produce from grocery store chains during the winter months. I keep reminding myselfgood, better, best!
-Calgary & Area Farmers' Markets - During the summer months we have lots to choose from! (there's a few more that we know of that isn't on this list... I'll have to make my own list soon).
-Airdrie Farmer's Market - Can't wait for the Airdrie Farmer's Market to start up this year!!
-Local Farmers and Flea Markets Canada - I found this site on-line to locate farmers markets and flea markets but I can't found anything yet for the area I live in so I'm not sure where it's focus is.

Health Food and Speciality Stores
-The Light Cellar - An amazing, amazing place... The people who work here really seem to love what they do and show act with purpose and intention. I could buy anything from this shop and would completely trust it's quality of nutrition. I also love to attend their cooking classes!
-Amaranth - I used to go here more when we lived in Calgary... I still pop back for a few of my favourites that I can't seem to find anywhere closer to home.
-Nutters - I tend to buy a few healthier canned goods, grains, nuts and seeds here.
-Edelweiss Imports - I was born in Germany and, although I was only an infant when we moved away, I was raised with many subtle German influences. Today I'd trade my left foot for a piece of German chocolate... so luckily I'm not able indulge as much as I'd like to.

Favourite Food Products
-The Light Cellar - A health food store as listed above that makes many of it's own products. My favourite though has to be the Raw Chocolate Cups that come in the flavours of: E3 Live Mint,  Lucuma Maple, Jungle Peanut Butter, Tangerine Dream and Hazelnut Medicinal Mushroom Coffee.
-Basic roots - A healthy food and product chain that it sold in many different stores in Calgary and surrounding areas. I buy their Raw Tuscan Sun Crackers and make a raw vegan "cheezy" dip to go with it using a recipe from The Light Cellar that calls for miso.
-The Stock & Sauce Co. - Fresh, organic, whole local produce used in a small batch production.  I also like my Basic root crackers with the South Western Fiesta Dip from The Stock & Sauce CoThey have this taste creation called Chocolate Cinnamon Mousse Dip... I honestly didn't know I needed dip for my fruit before I tried it. I just noticed a new additon to their menu... Maple Mousse... and I love maple! You can find them at the year-round Calgary Farmers' Market.
-La Crema Caffe - Gluten-free. It seems to be primarily a café but I've never actually been there. I buy a yummy La Crema Gluten-free Granola Mix at Amaranth. It's SO good!
-The Pantry Shelf, Café Bakery and Fine Foods - Located in Lindsay, Ontario this is a quaint like café in a very old building that looks to be full of history. While I've only been there once I'm still enjoying theirCranberry Chutney that is to die for! Mmmm... hungry just thinking about it!
-The Home Vintner - This little shop (Airdrie location) is modest in size but superior quality as it is the home of many award winning wine and beer kits. This past fall ('12) we attended a beer and wine making night where we joined The Home Vintner club which made us privy to the enjoyment of a beer and wine paired tasting!  They boost that the high quality of their wine allows you to enjoy the taste without the wine headache which often follows with some wines. I usually am more partial to a red wine though after that my favourite still stands as the Island Mist Pineapple Pear Pinot Grigio with a sweet taste and light body.
-Springbank Cheese - First introduced to me during a wine and beer tasting in Airdrie, AB, I fell in love with Springbank Cheese... or more specifically the Mango Ginger White Stilton that was paired with the Island Mist Pineapple Pear Pinot Grigio mentioned above.

Restaurants
-Gratitude Café - Vegetarian, Vegan, Raw, and Gluten-free. Located in Kensington Calgary, Alberta.
-The Coup - Vegetarian and Vegan. Located on 17th Avenue SW
Calgary, AB, Canada.
-Good Earth Coffeehouse and Bakery - Vegetarian and Vegan. I love this coffee place for it's use of almond milk. There are many locations but I don't get the sense of that when I'm there... it feels home-grown and so warm and cozy.
-Lazy Loaf & Kettle Café and Bakery - Nothing particularly healthy about this place but I always leave with a warm loving feeling. I think it's still family owned and operated but either way it certainly gives off that feeling.

Tea Shops
-Tevana  - great selection of whole loose leaf teas, great quality and I love all the tea sets!
-Steeps - I really love the atmosphere here. It's warm and inviting and I so beautiful sitting in the front outside in the summer.
-Oolong Tea House - haven't been myself but I've heard that it has a great selection.

Fitness
-Genesis Place - The staff is always so friendly and helpful and It's because of this place that I love my workouts.
-Beyond Yoga - My all time favourite yoga studio! I've been to quite a few studios in different provinces and still this is my favourite!
-Airdrie Yoga - I'm not crazy about this yoga studio, I find it's a bit hit-or-miss but it's the closest to us and I have had a few good classes.
-Bowcycle - Nothing beats a bike ride in the summer and this place has everything you need. The staff are amazing, they really know their stuff, and if they don't have what you're looking for than most likely they'll know who does!
-Sportcheck & The Running Room - These are the two places I use to get workout wear and light equipment like my gym bag and seekers.

Book Shops - because I still haven't successfully made the switch from paper to electronic...
-Chapters - Ordering on-line is always a plus and the low dollar amount you need to spend to get free shipping makes it that much easier.
-Amazon - If Chapters doesn't have it than I know Amazon will.
